Do You Need a Visa for Northern Cyprus?
Most nationalities can enter Northern Cyprus (TRNC) visa-free for up to 90 days. You arrive at Ercan Airport or a land border crossing, fill in a small white form, and your passport is stamped at the gate.
Exceptions (visa required in advance):
- •Citizens of Armenia, Nigeria, and Syria must obtain a visa from a TRNC representative office abroad before travelling.
For all other nationalities, a visa-on-arrival is issued at the port of entry for stays up to 90 days within any 180-day period.
How to Enter Northern Cyprus
Option 1: Via Ercan Airport (ECN)
Ercan is the main airport in Northern Cyprus. All flights arrive via Turkey (Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, Antalya). Direct flights from other countries are not available due to the political status of the TRNC.

1. Disembark the aircraft
2. Fill in the white entry form (personal details, purpose of visit, accommodation address)
3. Present your passport at immigration
4. Your passport is stamped with the entry date
5. Collect luggage and exit
Passport validity:
- •Citizens of countries with a TRNC representative office or EU countries: passport must be valid for at least 2 months
- •All other countries: passport must be valid for at least 6 months

Important: South Cyprus Entry Rules
If you enter Northern Cyprus via Ercan Airport or by sea from Turkey, the Republic of Cyprus (south) considers this an illegal port of entry. While in practice the south allows border crossings, some nationalities may face questions when crossing south after entering via the north.
If you plan to visit both sides, entering through Larnaca or Paphos airports (south) and crossing north by land avoids this issue. However, rental cars from the south cannot enter the north — see our car hire guide.
Extending Your Stay
If you want to stay more than 90 days, you must apply for a residence permit before your tourist visa expires. See our complete guide: How to Get a Residence Permit in Northern Cyprus.
